Workshops

A Master Teacher in his own ImageWork Training and in the Michael Chekhov Technique, and a founding member of the Michael Chekhov Association (MICHA) for the past twenty years David has been invited to give workshops at schools and theatres all over the US, Europe and the Far East, including, among others, Carnegie Mellon U., Columbia U., the Milton Katselas Studio in the US; The Center for Performance Research, the International Workshop Festival and Central School in England, the Spanish Royal Academy for Dramatic Arts and the La Abadia Theatre in Madrid, VSMU in Bratislava, the ZKM Theatre in Zagreb and TTRP in Singapore – to mention just a few. His life-long fascination with the inner workings of creativity in theatre has guided David's work into two complementary areas of actor training, both of which relate to the sources of the actor's creativity and the profound connections between the body-in-performance and the imagination:

ImageWork Training

Fully developed in David's book,BODY VOICE IMAGINATION: A Training for the Actor, (Routledge, NY 2002). ImageWork moves the actor along clearly delineated training trajectories from detailed work on physical awareness and expressiveness, to highly complex exercises involving the deep connection between the actor's body, voice and imagination. Special emphasis is placed throughout on the enormous power of images in the actor's presence and performance on stage.
In April a second edition of David's book was released with a new subtitle: ImageWork Training and the Chekhov Technique. This new edition apart from revisions to the training section, includes an entirely new chapte on the basics of the Chekhov Technique.

The Michael Chekhov Technique:
Based on a richly developed understanding of the function of the imagination, the power of images and the connections between physical expression and the imagination, work on the Michael Chekhov Technique follows seamlessly from ImageWork Training, and provides the next step in acting training: the move into text and character.
David's workshops vary in structure, and are tailored to the specific levels and needs of the participating group, as well as to the length of time available, a thorough grounding in ImageWork Training and in the Michael Chekhov Technique.
