The Surrealist Connection - Towards an Aesthetic of Surrealist Theatre
UMI, Ann Arbor, 1980. (PhD. dissertation, chosen by UMI for publication
in its Avant-Garde Series.)

An examination of the theatrical potential and the degrees and forms of its actual realization in the movements of the avant-garde from Jarry (1897) to the last major Surrealist exhibition in Paris, "directed" by Marcel Duchamps (1936). The last chapter looks at the ways in which this potential was indeed realized in the 60's and 70's of the 20th century.

Body Voice Imagination: A Training for the Actor
Routledge, NY, July, 2002.
Body Voice Imagination
A detailed manual of the ImageWork Training, including a theoretical introduction to the concept of "creativity training" and a step-by-step working through the "trajectories" of Training that are the backbone of ImageWork Training. The exercises are highly detailed in terms of procedure, emphases and hoped-for results. The Drama editor of Routledge London has recently invited David to prepare a 2nd edition of the book. This new edition will include many new exercises and a completely new chapter on the connection between ImageWork Training and the Michael Chekhov Technique.
